Below are our recommended improvements. You may select from these and also add your own at the bottom.
Simplify legal language in bills and provide summaries so that all citizens, including those in rural areas, can understand the implications of proposed laws. Utilize various media platforms, especially radio and mobile technology, to educate citizens about their rights to participate and how they can do so.
Develop user-friendly digital platforms where citizens can view bills, provide feedback, and engage in live discussions or Q&A sessions with bill authors or committee members. Additionally, set up physical forums, town halls, and mobile units that travel to different counties, especially rural areas, to gather input from a diverse range of Kenyans.
Provide regular updates on how public feedback is influencing bill drafts, fostering a sense of trust and partnership between the government and the people. After legislation is passed, release reports detailing how public input was used or why it wasn't, ensuring accountability and a true dialogue.
Implement special programs to engage youth, women, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups in the legislative process. This could involve workshops, mentorship programs, or ensuring representation in committees, empowering these communities to see their ideas reflected in national policy.
Make bills and related documents available in local languages, respecting and celebrating Kenya's linguistic diversity. This allows every citizen to participate in the legislative process in their mother tongue, fostering both pride and participation.
Work closely with civil society organizations and respected community leaders to amplify outreach efforts, ensuring the legislative process reflects collective wisdom and grassroots realities. By leveraging these partnerships, we can ensure that every Kenyans voice is heard and valued.
